Olympic Triathlon: The Olympic Triathlon is a long standing tradition at Westlake Charter School. In the beginning, our founders dreamed of a school that offered more for our students: Spanish, Art, an Innovative PE program, an international focus and teachers who masterfully designed curriculum to meet the personalized needs of every learner. The Olympic Triathlon helps our school to fund these dreams into reality. Our specialty programs, personalization through the use cutting edge technology, and amazing community are all converging on our brand new campus in 2017! This year, the proceeds raised from the Olympic Triathlon will go toward ensuring that our new facility is equipped with infrastructure & furniture as a 21st Century Learning Model for our students, our teachers and the special program that has grown to become Westlake Charter School.

Curriculum Highlights: In Reading, we continue our study on Folk Tales and Fairy Tales, comparing versions of Cinderella and reading the Iroquois tale, "The Great Ball Game." In Math, we compared and contrasted addition and subtraction strategies, vocabulary, and concepts and explored using virtual math tools from the McGraw-Hill website. In Science, we created play dough landforms and bodies of water and look forward to explaining them to our little buddies. In Writing, we wrote about our field trip and wrote friendly letters to our pen pals and our parents (don't forget to respond, parents, in your child's Friday journal!).
Second Grade Quote of the Week: We are towards the end of our field trip and I am rounding up our 4 chaperone groups and directing them to the bus. Alexis turns to me and I ask her if she enjoyed the field trip and she replies, "Yes! Can we go to college every day?"
Have a great week!
