Hi 2nd Grade Explorer Families,
We've had a very busy week back from break as we hit these next couple weeks hard with assessments, preparing for our conferences and our Living Museum, and wrapping up our 2nd Trimester! Amidst of it all, we have a new classmate, Cassius, who has done an amazing job as an Explorer this week! Welcome Cassius and parents Marygrace and Chris to our class and to Westlake! It is a true delight to have you with us!
Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences:
Thank you to those who have signed up for our parent-teacher-student conferences which are being held the minimum day week of March 13th - March 17th. If you haven't scheduled yours yet, please click here. The password is explorers. I look forward to having your student reflect with you on their 2nd Trimester!
Blue Folder Highlights:
Also in blue folders, please find your child's weekly Friday journal (please read, write back, and return); the 2nd Grade Living Museum flyer; and costume sketch template to help plan your 2nd grader's costume for March 14th's Living Museum showcase.
Curriculum Highlights:
I tested most of the class on their reading fluency and comprehension; I have a few more to finish up next week. Students also took their timed math fact fluency tests and started their Math 2nd Trimester summative tests. We will continue testing this upcoming week with Writing and Language. We will reflect on our 2nd Trimester as we prepare for our student-led conferences. We also have been diligently working through the researching-writing-publishing-memorizing-oral presenting process in preparation for our Living Museum showcase.
Living Museum Details:
* Tuesday, March 14th from 9:00 - 9:40 am in the Cafeteria and its Vicinity
* "Exhibits" (2nd Graders) come to school in costume
* Parents and family are encouraged to attend! We will be inviting our Westlake peers to peruse our museum, too!
Polar Bear March:
We are participating in the NNTMA Polar Bear March for this month! Please click here to read more.
Talent Show:
The new performance date is Friday, March 10th @ 6:00 pm in NP3 Gym. Hope you can attend and cheer on classmates Aiden and Quinn!
International Festival:
The International Festival is quickly approaching on Saturday, April 1st! Are you interested in hosting a Cultural Booth? Our goal is to have 25 booths! Want to show off your baking skills? Donate a dessert for our Dessert Walk. Would you like to volunteer for a shift at the event? Looking to donate to your student’s grade-level, internationally themed raffle basket? Find out how to do all this, and more, by visiting our website.
Ways to Westlake:
A big thank you to all the families who have logged onto WaysToWestlake.com and watched the Welcome Page Video. It is time for each family’s next assignment: Please visit the Driving Page on our WaysToWestlake site, and get to know the roads, the rules and the core values associated with driving to school next year. This page has all the rules for driving to and from school, as well as, a unique video and a colorful map you can study to find your way. This is very important information, and the sooner we all begin to plan and practice our commute, the more prepared we will be to start the year off meeting our goal of creating a safe walk to school for all kids!
Math Monday:
Click HERE for this week’s Math Monday! The questions this week have been created by students.
2nd Grade Props for the Week:
I just wanted to thank all the 2nd Graders for being the kind kids they are! Seeing them welcome a new friend into our class was a joy! It reminds me that no matter how busy and hectic things can be, there's always time to make a new friend!
Also, yay for Cassius for jumping in to a new environment with such an open, growth mindset! A true explorer!
That's all for now! Have a great week, all!
