We had a busy week! Please make sure you read and respond to your child's Friday journal, detailing some of what we learned! As you might notice, one of the things we focused on was informational writing and how to incorporate elaboration sentences with our detail sentences. This skill will come in handy as we work on our People Who Make A Difference projects.
Speaking of which, here is how parents can support our People Who Make A Difference unit:
*Please make sure your child has a biography (book) and is reading about their famous person; have this book come back and forth from home to school. [Students will be extracting facts from their reading and assembling research notes in their Writing notebooks in class.]
[We will be doing the online research and writing in class. I would like each 2nd grade researcher to have at least 1 book and 1 online research source as we gather facts and put together our informational pieces in class.]
*Once students publish their scripts in class, please help them memorize them for their Living Museum performance.
*Help your child assemble a costume of their famous person which they will wear during our Living Museum showcase in March; our team is still trying to secure dates. I will let you know as soon as I am informed!(:
Love is in the air!
With Valentine's Day approaching, please note the manila envelope in your child's blue folder that went home yesterday! Read the enclosed directions and return the item sealed back to me ASAP and definitely before Wednesday, 2/10! Also, we are close to earning a class party! We are leaning towards a valentine/friendship card exchange party on Friday, 2/12 @ 2:00 pm. Email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Field Trip to the California Museum on Friday 2/5
*Please make sure your child wears his/her blue spirit shirt and brings a lightweight sack lunch that includes a snack. I have ordered cafeteria sack lunches for: Zaed, Yarethzy, Aaron, and Aiden.
*WCS-fingerprinted chaperones please bring $3.50 for your admission; you will be giving this to Callie's mom, Joanna, on the day of the trip so she may pay the front desk for the adults in our group.
*Our bus-riding chaperones will be: Ahmed's dad, Taylor's mom, Callie's mom, Aidan H.'s mom.
WCS-fingerprinted chaperones who will meet us there: let me know if you would like me to share your email address with the others so you can coordinate carpools. Email me if you need more info and details as well.
Mr. Popper's Penguins!
We finished our class chapter book, "Mr. Popper's Penguins," and as part of a culminating activity, we would like to compare and contrast it with the movie, "Mr. Popper's Penguins," starring Jim Carrey.
Please click here to allow your child to watch this movie in class with his/her classmates.
2nd Grade Quote and Picture of the Week:
Callie, one of our Super 2nd Graders this week, describes her sharing at Morning Meeting.
"You can snuggle with it." Someone guesses, "a teddy bear!"
"Nope!" Asaiah sizes up a new face at Morning Meeting, and guesses, "Your sister!"
He's right!
Have a great week!
