Although last week was a short week, it was an eventful one! Our beloved classmate, Asmara, has moved to Elk Grove and will be starting a new school next week! I hope to hand-deliver a lovely book of farewell/best wishes letters from her classmates to her soon. We will miss her sweet smile, her exemplary growth mindset, and her kind friendship to all. We know she will make great new friends, persevere through this transition, and keep working towards her hopes and dreams! Best wishes and happiest hopes to her and her family. We will miss you!
100 Days Already?!:
On Monday (tomorrow)--Dress like you are 100 years old to celebrate our 100th Day of School! No canes or walkers, please!
Kindness Week Begins!
This upcoming week we will be dedicating Morning Meeting with an emphasis on Kindness! I am lucky to have a very kind class already; we will be just fine-tuning our kindness skills!
GATE Testing News:
Thanks to Prisha's family query, I was able to investigate and get clarification on this for 2nd Grade.
From Mrs. Eick: All 2nd graders will take the test, they do not need a parent referral. The only 2nd graders who will not test are those students who have already been GATE identified or the parent chooses to opt them out of testing. We will send out parent notification letters for 2nd grade parents next month.
Difference Maker Research/Living Museum:
Mark your calendars--our Difference Maker Showcase Event will take place on Wednesday, February 6th @ 9:00- 9:45 am. Second graders will be enlightening our Westlake community on their chosen Difference Maker! Hope you and your family members can join us! Click here for a PDF of our flyer.
This past week, we continued our Difference Maker work. You can help support your researchers by asking them how far along they are in the process. Are they reading? Note-taking on their concept maps? Drafting their scripts? Revising and editing? Memorizing? How are they feeling about their research work? Ideally, they should be at the memorizing stage of their scripts and have a plan for the costume they will be wearing on February 6th. We will continue to work in class. I will be copying finished scripts and sending a copy home to practice as well. Let me know if you have any questions. We are very excited!
