I'm so happy that my favorite season is upon us! Spring! A time for new beginnings, spring cleaning, fresh starts, and beautiful flowers!
NWEA testing this week:
Tuesday, 3/27--NWEA Language Test
Wednesday, 3/28--NWEA Reading Test
Friday, 3/30--NWEA Math Test
All testing will begin at 10:30 am. Please ensure students are present, rested, and well nourished! Thank so much!
To warm up, students may work on our Resources page on sites like Front Row or in their Volume 1 Math workbooks that went home a few weeks ago. Sustained reading will also help since the NWEA test challenges their stamina as well as their problem-solving ability. I know the 2nd graders will do their best!
Curriculum Highlights:
In Reading and Language Arts, we continue our work in Charlotte's Web. We learned about apostrophes and how to use them in contractions and to show possession. We also have been reading about weathering and erosion as it pertains to landforms. We will have expert groups reading about erosion, earthquakes, and volcanoes next week. Students chose their favorite landform and watercolor painted it--they are beautiful! (Many thanks to Ms. Prokop for this inspirational idea!) In Math, we are learning about data and graphs as well as telling time. We continue our classroom money incentive program as well! Please continue to ask your children to tell you the time and to count your change--it will help them practice these very important life skills!! Thank you!
Wish List:
Inexpensive items for our class store (these can be new items or gently used items from around the house that your child thinks their classmates will appreciate! Great way to get some spring cleaning done! Students are also bringing in original creations and art work to sell; so sweet!)
School-wide News:
Westlake Athletics Program: We are calling all families who have any background experience in managing, coaching or facilitating sports programs to come to a special meeting. The Parent Athletics Coalition meeting will be held Thursday, March 29th at 6:00pm, in the multi-purpose room. At this meeting, we will be soliciting parent expert advice on how to best develop a WCS Athletics Program to launch in the Fall of 2018.
The International Festival: The International Festival is quickly approaching on Saturday, April 7th! We still need contributions and your support to ensure that this event is a success. Click HERE to read the letter from the committee.
Spring Session After-School LIVE: Spring After-School LIVE runs from April 9 – May 25. Please click HERE to sign-up to lead a club and provide our Explorers with joyful learning experiences! 2nd Grade Quote of the Week:
It is Friday and that means our Classroom Store is open during Fun Friday time. Shoppers are called 3-4 at a time to make their purchase. Cameron looks at the display of candy Max priced and balks at the $30 price for each one, "$30 for a piece of candy?! That's too much! I'm going to Costco!"
That's all for now! Have a great week!
