It's hard to believe this will be my last newsletter to you! As I reflect on the school year, I realize it has been quite eventful for me--moving to a new school site, moving to a new home, losing my dad, helping my son navigate through his freshman year in high school, fostering my daughter's love of the performing arts, the list goes on! All happening as I tend to the teaching duties of educating a spirited group of 2nd graders who have come into their own! I am so proud of each of them for who they are and who they are becoming!
I want to thank you all for your support, too. It is evident that you all love and care about your children and it has been a privilege to be their teacher this year! Thank you for entrusting me with your kiddos! I want to especially shout out Ms. Dorothy, Scarlett's Grandma, who volunteered her time every week to support our 2nd graders in the classroom. So much of their growth has to do with Ms. Dorothy, as she connected with students at a level only grandparents can! She was my secret weapon on many students!! Thank you, Ms. Dorothy! I wish every teacher had a Ms. Dorothy!
We completed our unit on Ecosystems, which culminated in an expert group research and share of each ecosystem and an individual opinion writing test on "Which is ecosystem is your favorite?" In the spirit of our core value, Reflectiveness, we wrote thank you notes to WCS community members (including Ms. Dorothy) and compliment notes to our classmates. We also wrote good luck/"break a leg" notes to our little buddies and attended First Grade's "Rumpus in the Rainforest." We also worked on a fun (and funny project) for someone special in our lives! [Many need to finish coloring this at home--see blue folders if you are a not a dad.)
Monday--Math Monday: We will rotate through the 2nd grade classes and participate in a fun Math activity. I will also be distributing Field Day t-shirts to those students who ordered them. Please wear these on Field Day on Wednesday.
Tuesday--K-2 Morning Meeting: We will participate in a Kinder, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade Morning Meeting in the Gym, as we celebrate our primary community at large!
2nd Grade Potluck: Thank you to those who have signed up to bring something! Click here to see our sign up sheet. We will aim to set up around 11:45 am while the kids are at recess. We could use some help setting up, serving, and cleaning up! The 2nd grade team thanks you!
Wednesday--Field Day: Wear Field Day T-shirts or Spirit Day T-shirts! Field Events are from 9:00 am -10:20 am. We will be rotating in specialty cohort groups. After, we will return to our home classrooms. Lunch is scheduled for 11:30 am. Please make sure your child has a sack lunch and a water bottle. It will be hot and kids will be hot, hungry, and thirsty!! We will be lunching together for the last time in our classroom. [I have ordered sack lunches to be made by the cafeteria for Cali, Adam, and Max.] Dismissal this day is at 12 Noon. I will also be distributing report cards on this day, so please make sure your child brings his/her blue folder and backpack. Should you need to check your child out early, please sign out at the office and check out with me for a parting hug or high 5!
Field Day/Report Cards: Field day will take place on the last day of school, Wednesday, June 13th. All grades will dismiss at 12:00 pm. Report cards will be distributed no earlier than 12:00 pm, so please plan for your student to attend the entire field day. If you have an appointment and need to pick your student up early, please plan for extra time as the students will be in rotating stations throughout the day. Also, please note that there will be no afternoon walking school bus on Wednesday, June 13th.
