It's hard to believe this will be my last newsletter to you! As I reflect on the school year, I realize it has been quite eventful for me--moving to a new school site, moving to a new home, losing my dad, helping my son navigate through his freshman year in high school, fostering my daughter's love of the performing arts, the list goes on! All happening as I tend to the teaching duties of educating a spirited group of 2nd graders who have come into their own! I am so proud of each of them for who they are and who they are becoming!
I want to thank you all for your support, too. It is evident that you all love and care about your children and it has been a privilege to be their teacher this year! Thank you for entrusting me with your kiddos! I want to especially shout out Ms. Dorothy, Scarlett's Grandma, who volunteered her time every week to support our 2nd graders in the classroom. So much of their growth has to do with Ms. Dorothy, as she connected with students at a level only grandparents can! She was my secret weapon on many students!! Thank you, Ms. Dorothy! I wish every teacher had a Ms. Dorothy!
Curriculum Highlights:
We completed our unit on Ecosystems, which culminated in an expert group research and share of each ecosystem and an individual opinion writing test on "Which is ecosystem is your favorite?" In the spirit of our core value, Reflectiveness, we wrote thank you notes to WCS community members (including Ms. Dorothy) and compliment notes to our classmates. We also wrote good luck/"break a leg" notes to our little buddies and attended First Grade's "Rumpus in the Rainforest." We also worked on a fun (and funny project) for someone special in our lives! [Many need to finish coloring this at home--see blue folders if you are a not a dad.)

[I have ordered sack lunches to be made by the cafeteria for Cali, Adam, and Max.] Dismissal this day is at 12 Noon. I will also be distributing report cards on this day, so please make sure your child brings his/her blue folder and backpack. Should you need to check your child out early, please sign out at the office and check out with me for a parting hug or high 5!
