Thanks again to all who made it to Back to School Night. Hope it was helpful!
Thank you: to Roxanne's and Taylor's families for the cups and Kleenex! They have been put to use already!
Reminders:
Please complete the Parent/Volunteer/Student Info Google form on the Back to School Night page on our class website, especially if you would like to volunteer. I will be in touch with volunteers next week.
Big News:
One parent in each household should have received an email containing your child's IXL username and password. Please let me know if you didn't receive this. I will be emailing you their RAZ kids and Scootpad usernames and passwords soon.
The 2nd Grade Team decided homework would be in the form of weekly packets to be distributed each Friday and due the subsequent Friday. Packets seemed to work best for most families and are consistent with the 1st and 3rd grade homework protocol. I will be sending unfinished class work home, too, so some students might be getting some daily homework practice! Also, students can always read and work on IXL and Spelling City daily (and soon RAZ kids and Scootpad, too.)
Curriculum Highlights:
Daily 5--practicing Read to Self, Work on Writing, and Read to Someone.
Math--learning the addition strategies/vocabulary of counting on, doubles facts, and near doubles.
Technology--learning about digital citizenship; chrome book expectations and procedures
Social Studies--learning about having a growth mindset, met and interviewed our 1st grade buddies in Ms. Prokop's class! So fun!
Mark your calendars:
*9/3 WAVE meeting (6:30 -7:30 pm @DP)
*9/7 No school (Labor Day)
*9/8 Parents Get Googley (6:00 - 8:00 pm @DP)
*9/11 Crazy Hair Day
*9/17 WAVE Family Bingo Night (6:30 - 8:00 pm @DP)
2nd Grade Quote of the Week:
We are working with our learning partner in completing our growth mindset booklet and Aiden J. approaches me, hands me his booklet, and tells me he is done and doesn't feel like coloring the pictures because "I don't like coloring!" I ask him, "Could you try to have a growth mindset towards coloring?" He ponders this, takes back his booklet, replies "Okay!" and returns to join his partner. Yay!
Have a great weekend, all!
