Hi Explorer Families,
It's been a week of assessments and wrapping up mid-trimester work. Please make sure you get a chance to review your child's progress report and sign and return one copy. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
Accelerated Reader (AR) Book Levels:
I wanted to let you know that included in your child's progress report, is your child's AR book level, as determined by the online STAR test that students took earlier this month. The AR level, whether it be their IRL (independent reading level) or ZPD (zone of proximal development) helps us find "good fit" books that students can read and take comprehension tests on. With that said, accuracy and validity of the STAR test should be considered, too, and so if your student's AR level doesn't seem quite right to you, email me and we will figure it out!(:
10/22 Field Trip
*Permission slips: Purple permission slips went out last week; I am awaiting a few more. Let me know if you need an extra copy. Please note the due date for the slips is not 10/22 as mistakenly noted on the slips, but 10/15! Thank you to those who returned theirs already!
*Chaperones: Thanks to all who expressed interest! Our 4 field trip chaperones for this trip will be: Alexis' dad, Liam's mom, Tiffany's dad, and Taylor's mom. Details will be emailed to you as we get closer to our departure!
This Thursday, 10/1, is Picture Day! Please refer to the flyer/info that went home Friday in blue folders. Students are to wear the uniforms for this sitting (Spring pictures will be free dress).
This Friday, 10/2 is Decades Day! Students may wear an outfit representing fashion from a favorite decade! (I just might be wearing my 80s prom dress if I work up the courage!)
Fall Festival coming up!
Please look out for emails from our wonderful room moms for details and how you can help!
Thank you:
*To WCS Admin for financing several of us teachers to attend Saturday's CapCUE Tech fest! It was a wonderful day of learning and collaborating on all things tech!!(: I learned so much!
*To the volunteers who came in this week to help out and those who are helping at home! If you have time that opens up in your schedule and would like to help out in any way, email me and we will figure something out!
*Along those same lines, our librarian, Ms. Rollins, could use some help in shelving/organizing the school library. If you can help in this way, please email her: [email protected]
Wish List:
*Prize box items
*Lots of home-made play dough intended for our next Science unit on Landforms (students will be creating models). Click here for a suggested recipe. Click here to sign up to make playdough over the October Break!(:
2nd Grade Quote of the Week:
We are at snack recess and some students who forgot their snack are waiting for me to give them a handful of goldfish crackers. We run out right when Denny approaches and I give him the sad news. He cheerfully responds, "That's okay! I'm watching my calories anyway!"
Have a great week!
