Hi 2nd Grade Families,
It's been a busy week of celebrating good choice-making during Red Ribbon Week. We decorated our door, toured other festive doors on campus, discussed the importance of healthy body and mind choices, wrote about healthy choices, colored a thematic picture, shared what we wanted to be when we grow up, and dressed for success!
Thank you:
*To Joaquin's mom and Zackary's grandma for their classroom help this week.
*To our Instructional Aide, Mrs. Real, who supports our class in countless ways!
*To Ms. Rollins for coordinating our book fair--so much work!
*To all for your ongoing support of your 2nd graders reading and writing development!

Halloween, Pokeman, and Party Points
I am pleased to announce that we reached our 200 class point goal of earning a class party! At the end of the day yesterday we pitched and voted on class party ideas. The "cards/blanket/board game" party won and students wanted to do this on Monday, October 31st (Halloween). I told the 2nd graders I would email you all with this info--however, after much thinking I feel we need to delay this idea in order to discuss this a bit further.
For one, I want to revisit the voting process because I do feel the introverts in the class were not truly represented by the public whiteboard vote. [ I would like to re-do this such that each student is able to write down their votes and vote privately.] Secondly, due to "Pokemon drama and distractions," I just recently made it clear we are not allowed to have Pokemon cards in class and so I would like to stay consistent with this. Finally, I do think that Monday will bring lots of excitement as it is and our hard-earned class party should be reserved for another day to make it more special.
Will you let your 2nd grader know of the delayed party date? We will decide the new party date at Monday's Morning Meeting. I do plan on making Monday a fun learning day and students will be receiving a small class a treat from me.(:
Please let me know if you do not celebrate Halloween or if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

2nd Grade Quotes of the Week:
I open up Monday's Morning Meeting with a question: "Do you know what Red Ribbon Week is?" Zackary responds, "It stands for breast cancer." I reply, "Oh, pink ribbons stand for that. Good connection." Caleb calls out, "I think I might have breath cancer. Sometimes it really stinks."
That's all for now! Have a great weekend and week!
Mrs. A
