We had another great week in 2nd grade! This crew is coming along!
Welcome to Lusia and her family!
Lusia joined our class on Monday and has already adjusted so well to Westlake and our community. Thanks to her kind classmates who made her transition so smooth!
A Moment of Gratitude:
Thank you to Mykah's family for the wipes and tissues! Much appreciated!
Thank you to those who have emailed me a letter detailing how your child learns best and any additional helpful info to know as his/her teacher. If you haven't gotten a chance to do so, it's not too late! My email: firstname.lastname@example.org
I have another assignment for you! Please send in an unframed 4" x 6" family photo. I would like to post it under our Hopes and Dreams board to symbolize family support of our goals in 2nd grade! These will be returned to you at the end of our school year. Thank you!
* Read "Dex: The Heart of a Hero" about an under dog with big dreams, which inspired us to create our own 2nd grade hopes and dreams to post up for the year.
* Read "Simon's Hook: A Story about Teases and Put-Downs" and "Blabber Mouse" and had rich discussions about giving each other "put-ups" instead of "put-downs" and knowing when and when not to talk.
* Practiced our pre-writing strategies of quick drawing, concept mapping, and bullet listing our ideas.
* Participated in Writer's Share and learned about giving each other Writing comments.
* Practiced Math Workshop Rotations
* Practiced math facts, problems, and vocabulary related to addition
* Started math books and notebooks
* Read about being a 2nd grade citizen and discussed
* Learned about being a responsible digital citizen
* Took a school-wide quiz on digital citizenship
* Learned about 2nd grade "Techspectations"

Even if you choose not to complete the FRPSM application, we still need a letter back for each student so that we can ensure every family had the opportunity to complete the application.
2nd Grade Quote of the Week:
It is Morning Meeting and we are playing "Hot Seat" and Sofia is on the "Hot Seat." Everyone is taking turns asking her questions. "What is your favorite color?" "What is your favorite food?" etc. Someone asks, "What is your favorite place?" Sofia thinks for a second and says, "Right here!"
That's all for now! Have a great week and hope to see you Wednesday!
