Big thank you's are in order! First of all, many thanks to our field trip chaperones and additional parents who came to last Wednesday's Cal Expo field lesson. We appreciate your time and energy in keeping us safe! Thank you, too, to all who donated gift cards for our "Fall Wreath of Gift Cards" for the Fall Festival's Silent Auction! All proceeds will go back to our classroom to purchase supplies and education materials for the 2nd graders! We appreciate your quick thinking generosity! I would also like to thank Helena's family for the treat bags they prepared for our Class Party...
Class Party: We achieved our goal of 200 class points which means we have earned our first class party! Instead of Friday, October 26th, it has been changed to Thursday, October 25th. The class would like a "Bey Blade, Stuffed Animal, and Drawing Party." Students may each bring 1 stuffed animal or squishy that is small enough to house in their backpack. If they would like to participate in the Bey Blade rotation, they may bring 1 Bey Blade and stadium (if available). If you would like to donate refreshments or treats, please email me. [Please note we do have students who have allergies to peanuts and egg whites.] Thank you! We are beyond excited!
Curriculum Highlights:
In Reading, we explore fictional narratives! We have launched our Fairy Tale Unit with Cinderella and its various versions including Dinorella; The Rough Faced Girl (Native); Adelita (Mexican); Yen-Shen (Chinese); and Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters (African). In Writing, we continue practicing our small moment narratives and summary writing. In Math, we are learning place value and the different forms we can express a number (standard form, base 10 form, expanded form, and word form). We learned about the journey of a strawberry from farm to fork and we enjoyed our field trip that illustrated this and so much more! We continue to talk about being an upstander against bullying and explored healthy choices in preparation of Red Ribbon Week this upcoming week!
On Friday, we had our first guest teacher so I was able listen to most of the 2nd graders read and answer questions one-on-one. I will continue with end of the trimester assessments in the next several days!
School-wide News:

Parent Teacher Conference: Parent Teacher conferences will be held November 5th-9th. Click HERE to sign up for your student’s conference starting October 15th. Click HERE for instructions on how to sign up. We look forward to having 100% of our families attending a 1st trimester conference. Remember, November 5th-9th will be early dismissal for all grades to allow for time to meet with each of our families.
That's all for now! Have a great week!
