What a great week of student-led conferences! I am so proud of your children and thankful for your continued support of them! We had 100% parent conference attendance!
Just a reminder, students took home their Volume 1 Math books--feel free to utilize it to practice and review their 1st and 2nd Trimester skills, especially double/triple digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. Also, our resources page on our class website has ELA and Math websites we use in class, too! Our class website can be accessed via Westlake's website-->Teachers-->2nd Grade-->Mrs. Acquisto class website
Class codes: Freckle- acqui9 and Raz Kids- macquisto 1 (Password is your student's initials)
Spelling:
We are going to have Monday Spelling Pre-tests and Friday Spelling tests each week. These grade level and challenge level spelling lists can also be found in Spelling City on the resources page of our class website.
Reading at Home:
Most importantly, I hope reading at home is going all right! It has been neat to see some of the 2nd graders transform into real readers! Reading for sustained amounts of time is a lifestyle that I appreciate your help in instilling with your kiddos! (Visiting the library and bookstores regularly and losing myself in a book continues to be a joyful experience for me! I get restless when I am between books!) I know it is tricky to carving out that time, considering our busy lives, so I appreciate the effort in making our future leaders readers!
Remember to mix it up--students can read to self, listen to you read, choral read with you, take turns reading with you, or read next to you while you read! They can also read while they wait for practice to start or family members to get ready...Aim for different genres (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, picture books, chapter books, mysteries, children's magazines, how-to books, cookbooks, joke books, etc.)--however, as long as they are reading, that is great!
B Street Theatre Field Trip on Wed., March 20th!
We will be seeing Charlotte's Web! Many thanks to Mrs. Morgan for coordinating this experience for 2nd grade! This is a sack lunch field trip. If you would like the cafeteria to make your child a sack lunch, please email me ASAP. So far, I have ordered one for Arush. Students may wear their spirit shirts. I will be emailing chaperones tomorrow.
Curriculum Highlights:
*ELA- We are enjoying "Charlotte's Web" and hope to finish before our Field Trip! We are practicing the skills of summarizing, wondering, and identifying vocabulary. We are also reviewing adjectives in our writing and are working on independent writing projects.
*Math- We started our unit on Measurement! We enjoyed measuring classroom items in inches and centimeters.
*Earth Systems and Landforms- We examined different landforms and natural disasters and reflected on them. We also learned a little about what a geologist does.
