Hi 2nd Grade Explorer Families,
We are hitting a busy of time of the year as we wrap up Trimester 1 of 2nd Grade! The next couple weeks will be sprinkled with summative assessments and so good attendance, rest, and nutrition will be most helpful! Thanks so much!
Curriculum Highlights: I conducted one-on-one reading assessments with the 2nd graders and will finish these up this week. Students took a small moment narrative writing test, took their Words Their Way Spelling test, and practiced their math fact fluency. They also completed their Family Tree/Artifact presentations (scored rubrics went home in blue folders on Friday). They did such a fine job; thank you for your support in this! Second graders enjoyed participating in Red Ribbon Week and pledged to make healthy choices. They showed spirit in both Neon Dress Day ("Too Bright for Drugs") and Career Day ("Dress for Success"). We attended an anti-bullying assembly and discussed at length what bullying is and what to do if we feel bullied or see someone being bullied. We had a great time showing our Big Buddies our growing techie savviness and learning techie tips from them. We created a digital collaboration with our buddies, choosing from 1 of 3 topics we discussed this week: healthy choices, bullying, or the core value of excellence.
Parent Teacher Conferences:
Parent Teacher conferences will be held November 13-17. Click Here to sign up for your student’s conference. Click Here for instructions on how to sign up. We look forward to having 100% of our families attending a 1st trimester conference. Remember, November 13-17 will be early dismissal for all grades to allow for time to meet with each of our families. Many thanks to all who have already signed up!
As a side note, 1st Trimester conferences will be between parent and teacher only and NOT a student-led conference (We will conduct student-led conferences at the end of 2nd Trimester.) I look forward to chatting with you and sharing with you your student's assessments and report card.

2nd Grade Quote of the Week:
On my way to Morning Lineup, I swing by the Staff Room and pop a peppermint lifesaver in my mouth. I greet Cali, who is my line leader, when I see her. She looks at me, sniffs, and asks, "Do you have an air freshener in your mouth?"
That's all for now! Have a wonderful week and for those who celebrate Halloween, be careful on Tuesday and have fun!
Have a wonderful week!
