What a great full week of school we've had! We are slowly but surely getting in the groove of second grade and our school lives! I am enjoying this great group of explorers!
Look out for blue folders this weekend! In it you will find their first Spelling Test. Students who scored perfectly on Monday's pre-test will not have corrected tests; they did some enriched word work with our Instructional Aide, Mrs. Real. [Those who score perfectly on this upcoming Monday's pre-test will have a Challenge Spelling Word list to study for Friday's test. Click here to see the grade level list and challenge list for Week 3.]
In your child's blue folder, you will also find homework for you--a Friday journal. Please read and respond to your child and return on Monday. Thank you for supporting their writing and reading development!(:
Curriculum Highlights:
Daily 5--We are learning and practicing the elements of our Reading/Language Arts program (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Work on Writing, and Work with Teacher).
Writing--We drew and wrote about our summer and have started implementing Writer's Workshop.
Math--We started our first lesson on addition in our math book and began our beginning of the year assessment.
Core Values--We reviewed our core values and specifically talked about our focus core value: respect. Students came up with 6 class rules to follow this year (Ask them what they are!)
Technology--We talked about the rules in using chrome books and what it means to be a Digital Citizen. Our big buddies from Mrs. Kepler's 4th grade class were wonderful tutors on how to handle and use our chrome books!

Monday, 8/22--Reading
Friday, 8/26--Language
Monday, 8/29--Math
Thanks in advance for making sure your explorer is well rested and breakfasted for these test days!
