We returned to rain and a fresh new start, as we look forward to the horizon that is 3rd grade!
We learned and practiced our new lunch protocol--"Get in, Eat, and Vamonos!"--which launches Monday. Lunchtime is sure to be more productive, enjoyable, and safe with these new procedures put in place!
Thank you to the Compass Crew for their hard work on on our new lunch protocol and to all my fellow staff members and teachers who are incredibly dedicated to making our school special!
Curriculum Highlights:
Reading/Social Studies--We have launched our "People Who Make A Difference" unit! We learned about the criteria for biographies and timelines and read about Dr. Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, and Elizabeth Blackwell. Some of us read about Jane Goodall and Cesar Chavez. We worked in groups to find facts about these famous people.
Writing and Language Arts--We are practicing the writing process and most are in the midst of publishing one event that happened during our Winter Break. We are also learning about how to use a dictionary, the elements within, and how it can be useful to our writing and reading.
Math--We are learning about place value, expanded notation, and the difference between a digit and a number.
Core Value of the Month--Being Inquisitive
We talked about asking questions, wondering about what we read and see, and being curious. We also tied being inquisitive as a great character trait we noticed in people who made a difference in the world such as Dr. King and Rosa Parks, who questioned bad laws and stood up against inequality.

2nd Grade Teacher's Husband's Quote of the Week:
I was talking to my husband about our 2nd Grade Team's plan to dress as a famous Person Who Made A Difference to model for the 2nd graders the culminating Living Museum project. After running several ideas past him, he looked at me quizzically and said, "Why do you need to put together a costume? You should just dress as yourselves!" And that's why I married him!(:
Have a great week!
