Happy Mother's Day Weekend, Explorer Families!
I'd like to dedicate this newsletter to all you wonderful moms out there! Ours is a job not for the faint-hearted! When I became a mother 14 years ago, it truly transformed me and my mindset as a teacher. I tell new moms out there who ask me to describe motherhood, quite simply, this: "It's an inconvenient joy." But so worth it!
A HUGE thank you for all your wonderful words, cards, class supplies, gifts, flowers, treats, and food during this past "Teacher Appreciation Week." I am touched and humbled by all of it. I know it is a busy time and I appreciate the thoughtfulness, time, and generosity behind each and every gesture.
Many thanks to those who chaperoned our field trip to "Born in China." I know your children loved your being there and I appreciate the help in keeping our kids safe.
Curriculum Highlights: In Language Arts, we learned about cinquains (5 line poems) and published one for someone special. In Math, we reviewed picture graphs, tally graphs, bar graphs and surveys.
In our Travel Unit, we are working with great perseverance on our opinion writing and tri-fold projects. Please ask your researcher-explorer to tell you: 1) what they have accomplished so far; 2) their 3 reasons with 3 elaborations/examples on why one should visit their country; and 3) what their next steps are. Also, please ask your researcher-explorer if they need color prints for their elaboration/examples and if so, please print them out for them to bring to school or email me if I can assist you. Thanks so much for your partnership and support!
Mother's Day Quotes:
"Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love."--Stevie Wonder
"The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children."--Jessica Lange
"My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it.--Mark Twain
That's all for now! Happy Mother's Day!
