So glad this 3 day weekend is here--we have been working very hard this week! We are ready for a little respite!
NWEA update:
As you know, our NWEA Math and Reading tests that were scheduled this past Wednesday and Thursday have been postponed due to technical difficulties on the NWEA platform. Fortunately, students were able to test Friday (NWEA Language). I am hoping to use this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday (and possibly Thursday for makeups) to complete the NWEA Math and Reading. Thanks for your flexibility and support!
Snacks:
After the 10:00 am recess, students are given a 6 minute snack time outside before returning to class. I encourage all to pack your child a healthy snack, even if they have hot lunch for the day. I'm seeing that most are quite hungry for a snack mid-morning. Thank you!
Online Resources:
We have been practicing on our online curriculum sites this past week! If you'd like to access them via our resources page for further practice and enrichment, here's the info you would need for a couple sites:
Raz Kids:
teacher name: macquisto1
password: your student's initials (first and last)
Freckle ELA and Math:
password: acqui9
Volunteer update:
Many thanks to Mason T.'s dad, Richard, for taking on the role of Room Parent for our class! He will be our liaison to WAVE, grade level, and class needs and activities! Thank you so much!
As we settle into our school year, I look forward to welcoming in in-class volunteers and sending home work for at-home volunteers! I'm an email away!
Thank you to Helena's family for the Fall basket of classroom supplies! So thoughtful!
Our First Field Trip coming on Wednesday, October 17th!
Many thanks to Mrs. Morgan for booking our first field trip for the school year! Pink permission slips went home in blue folders yesterday. We will be going to Cal Expo to tour a farm and a pseudo forest to kick off our "Farm to Fork" unit. If you are interested in chaperoning, please email me. I am able to take 5 WCS fingerprinted volunteers. Thank you!
Curriculum Highlights:
* Language Arts - We learned about the Steps of the Writing Process (Pre-writing, Drafting, Revising, Editing, and Publishing) and took our writing from the pre-writing stage to the drafting stage. We also did some shared narrative writing on the wordless picture book on kindness, "I Walk with Vanessa." We completed 3 tasks in our WTW Spelling program and practiced Reading Workshop. We also started learning our cursive alphabet!
* Math - We partnered up to do an addition/mapping adventure. We also continued our Math workshop rotations.
* Technology - We continue to integrate technology in our Math and Reading workshops. We persevered through our first NWEA Language test!
School-wide News:
Chili Cook Off: Our 6th annual Chili Cook Off is coming up! This incredible event will take place on September 26th at 6:00 PM.
6th-8th Grade: Click HERE to volunteer or donate for the event. Team up with your advisory teacher to take on other classes head to head for the best chili at our Chili Cook Off! We are asking for help with expert chili chefs, decorators, and servers!
Kinder-5th Grade: Click HERE to sign up. This year we are inviting our Kindergarten through fifth-grade families to join the event by contributing dessert and drink donations. We would love to see at least 5 desserts and 5 drinks donated per grade level. Desserts are best donated in individual wrappings (ie brownies versus a whole cake). Drinks are best as 2 liters or 12 oz cans.
Field Lessons and School Supplies: Click Here to make your donation today!
That's all for now! Have a great weekend. Enjoy your sweet children!
