What better way to conclude October and celebrate the core value of Excellence than to participate in Red Ribbon Week? We created leaf rubbings upon which we wrote good choices for keeping our bodies and mind healthy to decorate our "Fall for Good Choices" door banner. We also envisioned our future by drawing it and discussed safe/unsafe scenarios we may find ourselves in. What a rich and enlightening discussion!
Thank you:
*To all for your dedication to your children and Westlake. It is so evident we have a special community!
Big News:
*Assessment week is this upcoming week; please make sure your explorer is well rested and breakfasted. No spelling words this week; instead, please review sight words and 100% words that students will be tested on! These can be accessed on our resource page. Click here.
*Keep a look out for an announcement for when and how to access the Canyon Creek Online Scheduler portal so you can schedule our conference together!
*We earned 200 class points and therefore a class party! After many proposals, the winning vote went to a "stuffed animal, movie, popcorn/pirate booty" party! (Unfortunately, my "quiet reading" party idea only got my vote.) We will celebrate this upcoming Friday afternoon in class. Students are encouraged to bring a favorite rated G movie by Thursday that we will vote on to view.
Wish List for our Party:
*individual servings of popcorn and pirate booty
*bottled water or juice boxes

2nd Grade Quote of the Week:
We are about to begin writing in our Friday Journal when Riley asks me to wait a few minutes because he is still reading his mom's letter to him. I glance at his page and remark, "Wow, Riley! Your mom wrote you a long letter! She must really love you!" He looks up from his reading and looks at me square in the eyes and says with such conviction, "She really does!"
Have a great week, all!
