Hi, 2nd Grade Explorer Families!
Many thanks to our field trip chaperones! Your help and flexibility are so appreciated! Hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did! It was so neat to see the play after reading "Charlotte's Web"; so enriching!
Spring NWEA Coming! (Here already?!)
Here is our Spring NWEA Schedule:
Tuesday, 3/26 - NWEA Language
Thursday, 3/28 - NWEA Reading
Tuesday, 4/2 - NWEA Math
All tests start at 10:30 am, after morning recess and snack time. Please make sure your 2nd grader is well-rested and breakfasted on these test days. Thanks for your support! I know they will do great!
Curriculum Highlights:
*ELA- we enjoyed watching the play "Charlotte's Web" at B St. Theatre! We drew a class and individual Venn Diagrams comparing the book to the play. We used our Venn diagram as a pre-write and turned our ideas into a paragraph. We saw some of the movie version of "Charlotte's Web" during Fun Friday. We continue to work on our narrative, informative, and opinion writing. In Spelling, we took Week #8 post test and will take Week #9 pre-test on Monday. To study at home for the week, click on Spelling City on our Resources page.
*Math- we took a Measurement pre-test focusing on equations and story problems and enjoyed a performance task on measuring and adding inches and feet. We reviewed concepts such as money and data and will start geometry next week! Mrs. Real and some middle school students are spending time reviewing double and triple digit addition and subtraction with some of our classmates.
*Earth Systems and Landforms- we predicted and defined these vocabulary words: geology, landforms, landscape, investigate, analyze, weathering, and erosion. We saw a video on erosion and hope to do a fun experiment on erosion next week!
Wish List for Science Experiments:
*Aluminum foil
*Sand paper
*Scotch-Brite type scrubbing sponges
*Soil (small bag--not too heavy)
*Clear, transparent plastic cups (class set)
*Bean seeds (or other fast growing plant/flower)

2nd Grade Teacher Reflection for the Week:
I just wanted to let you all know that when I stepped back and observed your children at work this week, I was struck by how well they are independently working and collaborating with one another! I am so proud of their academic and social growth! I am sure going to miss this group!
That's all for now! Have a great week!
