We had a fun science-filled week as second grade scientists, studying solids, liquids, and gases! We LOVE science!
Thank you to volunteers:
*who contributed materials so we could do our science experiments this week! So fun!
*who are organizing the students' quiet reading books.
*who came in to copy, distribute homework packets, read aloud to students, and assist in writing workshop.
Your time and energy are so appreciated!
Volunteers:
*Speaking of volunteers, I did want to let you know that after much pondering, I think what would work best in terms of our in class and out of class needs is to send me an email a day or two prior to when time opens up for you to help in or out of the classroom. Helpers are always welcome and there is always something I can send home.
*Chaperones for our 10/22/15 Field Trip to Sierra College's "People and Culture Days":
-->So many expressed interest via email; please also complete a google form by clicking here.
Permission slips will be coming home soon.
Curriculum Highlights:
*Science-->learned the properties of solids, liquids, and gases and conducted a series of experiments; defined pertinent vocabulary, sketched and wrote our observations; participated in a grade level experiment of our geyser experiment
*Reading-->read about "The Secret Science Project that Almost Ate the School" by Judy Sierra; started the class chapter book, "Owen Foote, Second Grade Strongman" by Stephanie Greene; did quick draws to practice the reading strategy of visualization
*Writing-->learned about the self-edit acronym, "CHIPS and Guacamole" (Capitalization; Handwriting; Indent; Punctuation; Spelling/sentence fluency and Grammar.)
*Math-->continued with subtraction strategies; check out our ebook link to McGraw-Hill on our resources page! It should work, thanks to troubleshooting with Mrs. Wilson!
