First of all, many thanks to Cece's stepdad for his help in class and Yuvraaj's mom for offering to donate so many items on our Valentine party wish list. So generous! A big thank you to all for your time, creativity, care, and secrecy in completing and returning your parent homework project! I know it will bring great pleasure and surprise to your sweet 2nd grader on Tuesday morning! Thank you!
Speaking of Valentine's Day, our Valentine party will be moved from 2:00--3:00 pm on Tuesday, 2.14.17 to 12:40--1:40 pm. We just recently heard that we are being treated to an in-house field lesson visit from B Street Theater from 1:45--2:45 pm in the NP3 Gym to view the production, "History Extravaganza," covering Ancient Greece, the California Gold Rush, Medieval Europe, the Making of a New Nation, and the Industrial Revolution. I would like our class to be a part of this learning opportunity! My apologies to parent party volunteers for the sudden time change--I hope it is not too late to change your work schedule to be at our party earlier which will start right after the students' lunch. I plan on setting up during lunch time at noon. Please join me then if you can!
For the party, I will have 5 rotations set up with time for a Valentine friendship card exchange, too. Please make sure if your child is participating, he/she includes all his/her classmates. No need for a Valentine box/container--we will be making one as one of our stations. We have 21 students and Mrs. Real, our Instructional Aide.(:
People Who Make A Difference Unit:
Students are doing a great job working through the research and writing process of this meaningful PBL. We are working towards our final Living Museum Showcase which will be on Tuesday, March 14th in the Multi-Purpose Room and its Vicinity from 9:00 - 9:40 am. I am so proud of how hard our 2nd grade researchers are persevering! A few have started memorizing their google slideshow already! You can support as a parent by asking them how far along they are in the process and what their next steps will be.
Also, please start creating/ordering/assembling their costumes so they will be good to go by showtime in March! Here are our featured exhibits:
Jackie Robinson (Zackary); LeBron James (Yuvraaj); Sacagawea (Audrey); Martin Luther King (Nathan); Christopher Columbus (Caleb); Harry Houdini (Joaquin); Michael Jordan (Amish); Sally Ride (Quinn); Harrison Ford (Aiden); Steve Jobs (Wade); Princess Kate (Rochaelin); Pocahantas (Lauren); Princess Diana (Alena); Blackbeard (Justus); George Washington (Aaron); Helen Keller (Emma); Coco Chanel (Scarlett); Cesar Chavez (Victor); Robert Ripley (Rayyan); Amelia Earhart (Emmeline); and Neil Armstrong (Phoenix). Thanks for your support!

Second Grade Quote of the Week: Alena, who will be Princess Diana for our Living Museum, tells me she has almost memorized her google slide show and would like to share with the class. She shows what she knows during carpet time to her classmates and they are clearly impressed. Cece, who is researching Princess Kate, comes up to me and whispers, "She's my mother-in-law!"
