There is a chill in the air, accompanied by a magical excitement, as we ring in another holiday season and the promise of Winter Break! In the meantime, there is much work and learning to do and I am proud to report that our class did a fine job returning from Fall Break with a new sense of purpose, focus, and goal-mindedness!
Thank you:
*To Rayaan's family for their at-home math prepping. Your time and effort is appreciated!
*To Zackary's grandma who is such a help during our Wednesday Workshop days; you have such a wonderful rapport with the 2nd graders!
*To Wade's aunt who was an amazing mystery reader and a joy to have in our class. We loved learning about horses and horse riding!
*To all of you or your day-to-day support of your 2nd grader; such a busy chapter of life we are in!
Curriculum Highlights:
*We began the week looking at our 1st Trimester Aassessments--noting our "glows" and "grows." From there, we created our indvidual goals for 2nd trimester.
*We have Stevie the TV visiting us for 2 weeks! This SmartTV is something we hope to have in all our classrooms next year! We are doing some pretty amazing things on it; please ask your explorer for details!
*Reading--We are reading and looking at the elements of folk tales and fables, contrasting them with fairy tales, and focusing on Author's Purpose and the Lesson of the story.
*Writing/Technology--We made second grade super sentences! We took our first draft sentences from our writer's notebooks and made them super on our google docs!
*Math--We reviewed addition arrays and double digit addition with regrouping.
*Science--We are wrapping up our Endangered animal research and plan on creating banners and persuasive letters to demonstrate our advocacy for these animals.

If you prefer that your student not participate or if you have any questions, please email me. Thanks so much!
