I'd like to welcome our new classmate, Ellie, to our class! Ellie's first day with us was Wednesday and she has done a marvelous job adjusting to our classroom community! Welcome, also, to her parents David and Maria! It is nice to have you along with us on this journey through 2nd grade!
Please make sure you check your child's blue folder. In it, you will find his/her 2nd Trimester progress report (and some other important papers.) Please sign and return 1 copy of the progress report via your child's blue folder. The rest is yours to keep. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
People Who Make A Difference Unit Continues!
We are excited to represent our Difference Maker at our 2nd Grade Living Museum Showcase on Wednesday, February 7th from 9:00 - 9:45 am in the 2nd Grade Neighborhood.
Here's how you as a parent can support your student:
1. Make sure your 2nd grade researcher has a biography text or online source for their Difference Maker (let me know if you need help with this or have any questions).
2. Ask him/her how far along they are in their research process and how they are doing. Check in regularly.
3. Provide a costume for them to dress up in to represent their Difference Maker. They will be wearing them to school in lieu of their uniform on Wednesday, February 7th.
4. While they will be writing, publishing, and memorizing their speeches at school, practice at home as well to help keep tummy butterflies at bay.
5. Please do not hesitate to email me if I can help in any way! Thank you for your support!
*Our class showed great growth in NWEA Math, Reading, and Language--across the board! NWEA Progress Reports are in blue folders behind progress reports.
*We continue to read about various Difference Makers such as Cesar Chavez and are working diligently through the researching, writing, and orating process to prepare for our February 7th Living Museum Showcase! Some of us are even putting together Google Slideshows of our Difference Maker!
*We were visited by Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, Frida Kahlo, Helen Keller, Malala Yousafzai, and Dolores Huerta (who, strangely enough, resembled the 2nd grade teachers) and learned about how they made a difference in the world.
*We enjoyed helping our Little Buddies in Mrs. People's class learn about the phases of the Moon and rose up to the challenge of re-creating the Moon's 8 phases with 4 Oreo cookies. We also showed them our tech savviness as we wrote about the phases on Google Slides.
*We continue to practice triple digit addition with regrouping and will focus on triple digit subtraction with regrouping next week.
