We've certainly earned a 3 day weekend! It's been busy!
Thank you:
*To all for supporting the homework habit in your children! We had 100% return! Keep up the great work!
*To my colleague, Mr.Dickey, for his generous donation of books to our class library!
*To Dylan's and Taylor's moms for taking on the role of our class' room moms and to all who expressed interest in volunteering to help out our class! I will be contacting you by email!
Spelling City update:
*How are you doing accessing this resource at home? One of our families has generously offered to upgrade my account to a premium one in hopes to improve matters. Would this be helpful? Please email me your thoughts.
Curriculum Highlights:
Much of this week was spent in incorporating technology with subject matter. We've been learning how to log on, find our class resource page and navigate our way through our Language Arts and Math links, specifically Spelling City, RAZ-Kids, Scootpad, IXL Math, and Fact Dash.
We also learned about common and proper nouns and adjectives. We helped our little buddies come up with adjectives to describe them. I gave students a timed addition fact test of 100 problems. We enjoyed a team building activity of constructing paper cup structures using only nonverbal communication. (See pictures in our photo gallery!)
Wish List:
*Stay tuned for items to sign up for to support our upcoming science unit on matter!
Mark your calendars:
*9/7 No school (Labor Day) (Spelling pre-test will be on Tuesday, 9/8)
*9/8 Parents Get Googley (6:00 - 8:00 pm @DP)
*9/11 Crazy Hair Day
*9/17 WAVE Family Bingo Night (6:30 - 8:00 pm @DP)
2nd Grade Quote of the Week:
I am reviewing the addition math strategy of counting on and sketch a number line to illustrate. I also point out you can count on using your fist and fingers. After I demonstrate this, I sketch a fist and fingers. Surveying my sketch, I wonder aloud, "Does that look like a fist and fingers?" Gabriella observes, "I think it looks more like a bunny!"
Have a great Labor Day Weekend!
