I am so proud of the perseverance students are showing as they take this final round of NWEA tests. Because of technical glitches on Thursday, we needed Friday to finish up our NWEA Language test. This, coupled with the fact we had several absences on Friday and the students seemed truly worn out, made me decide to postpone our Math NWEA to next week. I am aiming for Tuesday or Wednesday. Students who missed any NWEA testing will most likely be making up their tests on these days as well. Deadline to complete all NWEA testing is next Friday.
Black math homework folders were sent home yesterday. This is optional practice work for students to do at home in concert with our math online resources. Some parents expressed a desire for hard copy homework to help support what we are learning in class. Everything in the black folder should be review and your child should be able to do this work independently. Feel free to use this folder in a way that is helpful to you and your child. Suggestions include working on a page or two during BASE time, commuting, waiting, after school, and during break between the fun. A few pages to warm up our math brains for our NWEA Math test next week is also a good idea! Again, this is purely optional work, but I wanted to offer all parents and students this resource. Many thanks to Rayyan's mom who prepped these pages for us!

Curriculum Highlights:
Language Arts and Reading--We read Roald Dahl's "George's Marvelous Medicine" and noted the "million dollar words" therein. We responded back to our Pen Pals in Mrs. Boone's class and reviewed our Daily Language lessons of the week.
Math--we introduced the concept of telling Time, did a partner Math test on place value, and reviewed concepts from Volume 1 of our Math books. We will be starting Volume 2 and Money next week.
NWEA Testing--most of us have completed our Reading and Language NWEA tests and are gearing up for our Math NWEA test next week! So proud of the stamina and support for each other we are demonstrating!
2nd Grade Quote of the Week:
While the rest of the class is quiet reading, Joaquin and Caleb are at the back table with me finishing up their NWEA Language tests. Caleb asks, "Can we have free choice Chromebook time after I'm done with this test?" Joaquin leans in with this sage advice, "Caleb, focus on the now and the later will take care of itself!" Both toiled on, finished their tests, and did great! Twenty minutes of free choice Chromebook time was awarded to all!
Have a great week and enjoy your children!
