Hope you had a great Labor Day Weekend! We were very busy this week; I'm proud of how our class persevered and powered through!
This newsletter will be dedicated to lots of important announcements! Please make sure you read your child's Friday journal to get their scoop on our Curriculum Highlights! When you respond to their entries, make sure that you are correcting any spelling, grammar, or letter format errors in your own entry, not theirs (modeling by example). Thanks so much for helping them become better writers!
Homework:
Reading--How is the daily reading coming along? Hope you are supporting your 2nd grade reader in providing lots of reading opportunities for him/her. While Raz-Kids and Storyline online are great resources, in my opinion, there's nothing quite like the experience of touching and page turning a real book! At least 30 minutes of reading in one sitting is what research recommends. Trips to the library and Barnes & Noble are great bonding experiences and habits to get into! Also, I am looking into Highlights subscriptions. I'll keep you posted!
Math--As you may have noticed, math work is coming home to inform you as to some of the math we are doing in class. Please review any areas that might be tricky for your child; some may need to complete work that they were unable to finish.
A Note on Online Resources: 2nd grade will not be doing Accelerated Reader or IXL this year. McGraw Hill Math will be available online for students later on in the year; for now, focus on Front Row Math (class code: Acqui7), Raz-Kids (Teacher username: macquisto1; password: student initials), Storyline online, Typing, and Spelling City (no username or password needed).
WAVE News:

Susan Ross, Ms. Prokop's room parent, will be coordinating this for us (Thank you, Susan!). Here's the info, in her own words:
