I hope you were able to take some time this break to spend with your loving children! I spent great family time in Tahoe and on the ski slopes, trying to channel my inner Winter Olympian! Now that we are heading back to school, it is "go time!" So much to do!
First, many thanks for the valentine cards, sweets, and gifts that are your children! They loved your secret parent valentines (see slideshow below). Great job, everybody! You all get an A+ for being amazing parents! Shout outs to Conrad's family for the popsicles and Adam's family for the cookies. We appreciate the wipes and Kleenex from Elliot's family and the help from Adeline's mom! They had such a fun Valentine's Day!
As mentioned in my pre-break email, Read to Succeed reading logs will be due Monday. Also, if your child accidentally took home a Volume 2 (not Volume 1) Math book, please return Monday as well. Thanks for checking!

Curriculum Highlights:
In Math, we rotated through our "Math Lab," answering a variety of questions in trios or partnerships. We reviewed subtracting across zeroes and made money charts. We began our unit on Landforms and Bodies of Water, defining their attributes and sketching them. We wrote Valentines to those who help us most in class, Ms. Dorothy, Ms. Real, and Ms. Sahara. In Reading, we read fiction and non-fiction paired stories and compared their elements. We also learned about Chinese New Year. Happy Year of the Dog! On Friday many students "dressed like a star" but of course, in my mind, they are all super stars!
Friday was also the Talent Show--great job to our 2nd grade friends who absolutely rocked the 2nd grade dance and Adeline for her great Harry Potter wand work!
Wish List:
We could use more cleaning wipes and snack size baggies (to be used as student wallets for our Math money). Also, any inexpensive (non-food/non-candy) items that would work well for our "class store." Thank you!
That's all for now! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! I look forward to seeing your children on Monday!
