Hi 2nd Grade Families,
Hope all had a wonderful Fall Break! I savored my time with my son, chaperoning his 8th grade field trip to Washington DC. It was an educational, inspirational, and transformative experience I wish for you and your children some day!
Thank you:
*To Amish's mom for her at home help this week and to Alena's mom for her in class help yesterday. We appreciate your time!
*To our room moms, Emmy's and Emma's moms, for coordinating our Fall basket and volunteers as well as all who have volunteered and contributed--many thanks!
Curriculum Highlights:
*Language Arts and Writing--Students went on a Fall Scavenger Hunt and wrote about their discoveries; we continue our study on versions of Cinderella from different cultures. Ask your explorer their favorite one so far! We also wrote to our pen pals from Mrs. Boone's 2nd graders from Hight. We had our first class Spelling Bee! I was so proud of our professionalism, growth mindset, and good sportsmanship! Such a special group of kiddos!
*Math--We practiced skip counting and learned about repeated addition. We continue to practice our math facts. We will be talking about arrays next week.
*Science--We considered "What is a biologist?" as we prepare for our Animal Advocacy Unit.
*Technology--I hope to be introducing "google classroom" next week as I prepare a slideshow of monuments, memorials, and artwork from my Washington, DC trip to share with the 2nd graders. I will be examining Front Row to see if I can align it better with our math curriculum in class.
Field Trip to Cinderella on 11/9--info and permission slips went out in blue folders. Our 5 chaperones will be: Nathan's mom, Alena's mom, Aiden's mom, Audrey's dad, and Scarlett's mom. Chaperones please make sure you are WCS fingerprinted and you have paid for your ticket online. Click here for more info. All other interested parents have been placed on a waitlist, should an opening become available. Thank you!
Scholastic Book Club and Highlights Magazine Subscriptions--you should have received an email reminder for the former and something in the mail for the latter (if requested). Hope these can be two ways to help support your reader! scholastic.com/readingclub class activation code: QGHGX (Oct. 30th deadline for this order)
