I hope you had some wonderful moments with your children, as we prepare for our return to school on Monday. It was a great couple weeks for us--visiting Hogwarts at Universal Studios, frolicking at Santa Monica Beach, touring my alma mater UCLA (which has changed quite a bit since graduating in 1991!), visiting family and friends, and enjoying the last bits of skiing in Tahoe. I also enjoyed reading Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders--I highly recommend it! Feeling re-charged to take on the last bit of school as we peer into the horizon that is 3rd grade! Hope you and your children feel the same way!
Just a few things--in your child's blue folder are some important info-letters to review regarding Ways to Westlake and our upcoming 2nd Grade Travel Unit. The country your child randomly chose is taped on top of the latter info-letter. Click here to see our class' countries of study! [We do have 4 extra countries we can choose from in case we need that flexibility as we embark on our research.] Tri-fold presentation boards may start coming in this Friday. They can be found at any office supply store, Wal-Mart, and Michael's. Let me know if you have any questions or if I can assist you in any way!
We will ease into Monday by talking and writing about highlights from our Break and integrating that into poetry. Conversing with your children or helping them jot down a pre-write (a bullet list, quick sketch, or concept map) to remind them of what they enjoyed would be most helpful!
That's all for now! Have a great weekend and week!
