Remember to "Fall Back" (turn your clocks back 1 hour)! I am so thankful we gain an hour--it's one more hour I could use!
Thank you to all as you continue to support your children through 2nd grade. I am noticing better reading fluency and stamina as well as more responsible decision-making! Please continue to encourage daily reading for at least 30 minutes and practice those math facts! Thank you!
Parent Teacher Conferences:
Parent Teacher conferences will be held November 13-17. Click Here to sign up for your student’s conference. Click Here for instructions on how to sign up. We look forward to having 100% of our families attending a 1st trimester conference. Remember, November 13-17 will be early dismissal for all grades to allow for time to meet with each of our families. Many thanks to all who have already signed up! I am awaiting just 4 more families!
As a side note, 1st Trimester conferences will be between parent and teacher only and NOT a student-led conference (We will conduct student-led conferences at the end of 2nd Trimester.) I look forward to chatting with you and sharing with you your student's assessments and report card.
Curriculum Highlights:
*We have started our Farm to Fork/Goods and Services Unit by talking about plants. We identified parts of a plant (pumpkin) and talked about germination and photosynthesis.
*In Math, we are adding four 2-digit addends together using different strategies. Please continue to practice with your children and for those who need more challenge, try 3 digit addends!
*In Reading and Writing, we are moving from narratives to expository text. We are looking at the elements of non-fiction text and applying it to our writing.
Please click here if you would like to donate to our Class Wish List. I would love to have students do some planting of their own to connect to our Farm to Fork Unit! Thank you!
From WAVE: The Olympic Triathlon is our biggest fundraiser of the year. It isn’t just about fundraising but is also about celebrating what sets us apart from so many other schools: Our three specialties of Art, PE and Spanish! This year we will be fundraising to customize our beautiful new campus with things like shade, soccer goals and bike racks.
On Thursday, November 30th our students will participate in a special day of learning on the Olympic Triathlon Event Day. This day is completely staffed and planned by our parent volunteers alongside some fabulous WCS staff members. We need your help to make this day fun and successful for our school and students. If you would like to get involved with planning please contact Amber Hustead, WAVE President, at [email protected].
Have you had a chance to checkout our new online donation system? You are able to personalize a family donation site to send to friends and family, post on social media or show to co-workers in the office. Please visit http://pledgestar.com/westlakecharter to set up your family donation page.
Our school wide goal is to have each student contribute $180 which represents $1 for every day of school. We encourage families to give what they can whether it is less or more than the goal amount. We are striving for 100% participation from all students to contribute at least $5 towards our Olympic Triathlon Fundraising efforts.
We will be collecting checks and cash at the Maybrook entrance on Tuesday mornings from 8-8:40am. Students will receive prizes and recognition based on online and in person donations. Thank you!
That's all for now! It's back to grading and report cards for me! Have a wonderful weekend and week!
