It's hard to believe we are already in April and just days away from Spring Break and a few short months away from moving to our new campus and becoming 3rd graders!
Thank you to all who have donated to time, energy, items, and money to our Fall Festival! I think the 2nd Grade Basket will be a great one! The Fall Festival starts today at 3:00 pm on the DP campus!
Curriculum Highlights: Math--we started our money unit reviewing values of each coin, the Person who Made A Difference on the front of each coin, and the significant site or symbol on the back. Some of us practiced counting coins and coming up with different ways of meeting a price point. Language Arts--Big buddies helped guide us into constructing 10 super spelling sentences with week #29 words. We chose our best one to showcase on our Think Boards. Reading--We started a class chapter book, "Mr. Popper's Penguins," and have been practicing the strategies of visualizing and summarizing. Writing--We reviewed the OREO format of opinion writing and have started writing an opinion piece. Social Studies--We will be launching our 2nd Grade Travel Around the World unit soon, whereby each 2nd grader will start researching and becoming an expert on a given country--stay tuned!
Conflict Managers: Next week, I will be taking applications from our class to be 2nd grade Conflict Managers at recess time. This is a peer program I started about a decade ago at Westlake to help 3rd and 4th grade students problem-solve disagreements at recess and keep the playground safe and respectful. I am excited that Mrs. Battin gave me the go ahead to extend this to our 2nd graders for this 2nd Session.
Explorer Families: Each month we are asking families to plan a portion of their route to school as we all prepare for our move to the new campus. This month, study our Walking Page on the waystowestlake.com website and plan your walking route today! Save the date for our Practice Your Way to Westlake day on Saturday, May 13th!
OPTIONAL Spring Picture Day on Thursday, April 6th: Spring picture day will be optional this year. All students will have free dress on Thursday, April 6th. Only students who have prepaid AND filled out this form will be sent to the photographer to have their picture taken. Picture packets will go home this week. If you would like to have your student’s spring picture taken by Lifetouch, please fill out this form AND prepay online or send payment in the packet.
Math Monday: Click HERE for this week’s Math Monday.
This Friday is Career Day! Dress up as a career you would consider to be!
Spring Break is April 10-21st!
That's all for now! Enjoy this sunny, breeze-free, day!
